It is not strange for the vampire-themed TV franchise to bring back some familiar faces from “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” onto its latest spin-off series “Legacies.” So that possibility remains, especially now that “Legacies” season 2 has started filming and is slated for a return in the fall. Meanwhile, another development gives fans hope that Candice King might be reprising her role as Caroline Forbes this year.
“Legacies” season 2 cast: Candice King joins SDCC 2019 panel; Is she joining series, too?
One thing that makes King’s appearance in “Legacies” season 2 possible is the recent announcement that she will host the show’s panel discussion at the San Diego Comic-Con 2019. The well-attended pop culture convention happens on July 18-21 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California. King announced on Thursday through her Instagram page about moderating the “Legacies” panel on Friday, July 19 back when she attended as a member of the panel in 2011 SDCC for “The Vampire Diaries.”
Being one of the original cast members of The CW’s popular vampire universe, King’s appearance at SDCC this month with the “Legacies” season 2 cast is not surprising. But considering that she has not reprised her role for the show (yet) begs the question whether her attendance July 19 is required not only to host the panel. Fans may need a grain of salt with this, but there is a chance that the announcement of Caroline’s return might be in order as well.
‘Legacies’ season 2 release date, spoilers: There’s an open invitation for Caroline’s return
Even before King’s confirmed attendance at the 2019 SDCC, there might have been a little foreshadowing on the part of showrunner Julie Plec with regards to Caroline’s return in “Legacies” season 2. Plec said at the ATX Television Festival in June that there is a possibility for some of “The Originals” characters to appear in the spin-off.
Plec noted, however, that “The Originals” characters will return when the plot requires them. TV Guide pointed out, there is a premise for Caroline to return. Caroline serves as a surrogate mother to twin sisters Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) and Josie (Kaylee Bryant). “Legacies” season 2 picks up from the twin’s discovery of the Ascendant that could spell danger for them, so a little help from Caroline will be great.
The showrunner also confirmed that there is a “strong” demand for Caroline’s return and that she is also open to that possibility. “So honestly, it’s just a matter of finding the right story and the right opportunity for Candice to want to come back and play in the sandbox a little,” Plec added. With all things considered, “Legacies” season 2 sounds like a good time to bring back Caroline. “Legacies” season 2 airs on Oct. 10, 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
