“Last Man Standing” season 7 is now sure to air despite the shocking cancellation by ABC Network last year. The show’s first six seasons had good ratings so fans were really upset when the announcement was made.
With fairly decent ratings, the fans and even the stars of the show could not think of a reason why the “Last Man Standing” was axed. So, they concluded that perhaps, it could be due to the lead star Tim Allen’s political views. However, executives from ABC were quick to deny this. The network asserted that it was taken off the air because they wanted to eliminate comedies in their Friday night programming lineup.
"A large part of these jobs are managing failure, and we have made the tough calls and canceled shows that we would otherwise love to stay on the air,” The Hollywood Reporter quoted ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey as saying.
“I canceled Last Man Standing for the same business and scheduling reasons that I canceled Dr. Ken, The Real O'Neals, The Catch and American Crime," she added.
Now, Tim Allen (Mike Baxter) also expressed shock over the decision to cancel their show since it was doing very well. “Stunned and blindsided by the network I called home for the last six years,” he tweeted following the cancellation announcement.
Fans could not understand either why ABC got rid of “Last Man Standing” and their frustration led them to write a petition to keep the program on the air. Hundreds of thousands signed and it seems that Fox took notice of this.
Actually, CMT was the first to make an offer to revive the show and air “Last Man Standing” season 7 but things did not work out. Fox entered the picture and a deal was finally made.
Explaining why they revived the show, Fox TV CEOs Gary Newman and Dana Walden said, "We’ve wanted to put the show back together since its final taping a year ago, and Tim never gave up hope either."
What to Expect
Tim Allen previously said that his character, Mike Baxter, has a conservative viewpoint so he is probably a pro-Trump. By saying this, it can be assumed that there is a chance that Mike could air his political views on “Last Man Standing” season 7.
But then again, as per Fox News, the showrunners revealed that they will stay away from politics as much as they can. Showrunner Kevin Abbott relayed that their show will not “specifically comment on Trump.”
Cast and Crew
Some of the show’s cast members are not returning for “Last Man Standing” season 7. Deadline reported that Molly Ephraim (Mandy Baxter) and Flynn Morrison (Boyd) are going to be replaced by Molly McCook and Jet Jurgensmeyer, respectively.
Nancy Travis (Vanessa Baxter) could be coming back as Mike Baxter’s wife. There is also a chance that fans will see new faces like the oldest son of Kristin Baxter (Amanda Fuller) and Ryan Vogelson (Jordan Masterson). Other cast lineup includes Hector Elizondo, Jonathan Adams and Christoph Sanders.
Air Date
“Last Man Standing” season 7 has been confirmed to return to TV on Sept. 28.
