With Nintendo canceling the NES Classic mini console, the Japanese company effectively made the last of the shipment of the product infinitely more valuable. This shipment is set to arrive at Best Buy shelves tomorrow, which effectively makes them the last chance for fans of the classic home video game units to get one for themselves.
To be clear, this applies to the physical stores of Best Buy and not its online retail branch, The Verge reports. As such, pre-ordering or reserving units might not be enough to guarantee that customers will get one. As it is, standing in line outside of stores is the only way to make sure of getting an NES Classic and even then, there is the matter of competition to consider.
According to a spokesperson from the retail giant, barring any inside transactions, the NES Classic units will be sold to customers on a first-come-first-serve basis. On that note, the spokesperson did not provide specifics on how many units are going to be available in which stores, so it would be safe to assume that they will run out in a matter of hours.
More than the consoles themselves, Best Buy will also be offering the accessories that come with the console at huge discounts. This makes a lot of sense since, after tomorrow, they will no longer be selling the game boxes anyway.
This arrival of the units is consistent with Nintendo’s own announcements a few weeks ago when it revealed that the last of the NES Classics will be shipped near the end of the month, USA Today reports. If customers don’t want to spend upwards of $300 on the units as they are going for on eBay right now, this is their last chance. It’s a good bet that there could be Black Friday level camping activities as well.
