Kim Kardashian earned the ire of many people after she seemingly enjoyed being complimented for her super skinny frame. Concerned citizens criticized the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star for promoting anorexia and glamorizing an unhealthy diet which can hurt people.
As per The Washington Post, the backlash started when Kendall Jenner and Khloe Kardashian were featured as guests in a video that was uploaded by Kim to her Instagram Story. Kim filmed her sisters as they were commenting on her very slim figure. While at one point, her sisters also expressed concern for looking unhealthily skinny, the eldest of the Kardashian sisters kept saying, “Thank you!”
"No, like, I'm really concerned because I don't think you're eating. You look so skinny," Kendall said. To which Kim Kardashian replied with "What?! Oh my God, thank you!" It seems that she was taking their comments as compliments while she should be concerned that others find her figure concerning.
Khloe also said, "I've never seen a human being look as tiny as you. Like, you're a walking FaceTune doll.” Adding that, “I've never seen a skinnier person in my life. Well, Kendall, but that's natural. You -- it takes work to look like that, and that's amazing."
Apparently, many did not find the sisters’ conversation about being skinny as something proper. They observed that the sisters were just making out eating disorders and unhealthy diets as natural when they should be discouraged.
Many were fuming mad by the skinny talk and the controversy got bigger when actresses Emmy Rossum and Stephanie Beatriz shared their own experience with weight loss, stressing that weighing 119 pounds with a frame like Kim Kardashian's has negative consequences.
Stephanie said that the only time she was at that weight was when she was suffering from a bad eating disorder.
“I had lost 10 pounds and was gaunt and sick and felt faint … It totally messed with my head, Us Weekly quoted her as saying. “You never know what someone is going through. If you’re having a tough time with body image, I promise you’re beautiful and this feeling will pass.”
Stephanie’s social media update was reposted by Emmy Rossum and she disclosed that she herself also suffered from an unhealthy weight loss experience.
Lastly, the posts gained lots of comments but most of them had the same message – that the Kardashian sisters’ thoughtless comments are damaging to the younger generation as they were saying that being anorexic is beautiful.
