Jeff Kaplan Sat In Front Of A Fireplace For 10 Hours Doing Nothing, 39,000 People Watched

It’s a testament to the popularity of Overwatch that even its developers get a ton of attention. During Christmas Eve, for example, game director Jeff Kaplan sat in front of a fireplace doing practically nothing and over 39,000 people watched. He did this for 10 hours and it didn’t look like the video was in a loop either.

As Tech Times notes, any video with Kaplan in it usually involves some announcement of some sort about Overwatch. This made him a prime target for the attention of fans of the game who are eagerly anticipating any morsel of new details about the MMO FPS. As such, it might not be such a huge surprise that thousands would tune in on what essentially amounts to a long tease.

The video was streamed via Twitch using the official Overwatch channel. The environment also had several interesting details that caught fans’ attention, including a plate of cookies, a mug with an Overwatch theme, and a bottle of milk.

Kaplan himself sat on a leather chair, shuffling and moving around every few minutes for most of the ten hours that he sat. During the stream, many viewers wondered if the whole thing was actually just a loop. Why on Earth would the Overwatch director subject himself to such a situation during Christmas Eve of all times?

Yet, there were plenty of signs that it was indeed the real deal since Kaplan didn’t move in the same exact way and there was even an instance when a boom mic fell on him, PCGamesN notes. All in all, the video garnered hundreds of thousands of views.

It’s also possible that the stream was prerecorded and wasn’t technically live. Even so, Kaplan still apparently had to sit in front of a camera for almost ten hours, and that’s impressive.
