‘Jason Bourne’ releases latest television spot with new footage of Matt Damon’s titular character involved with the underground fight scene as well as uncovering the truth behind his father’s death.
According to Comingsoon.net, Universal Pictures recently unveiled the latest television spot for the upcoming fifth installment in the ‘Bourne’ cinematic series starring Damon as a rogue CIA Special Activities Division operative suffering from extreme memory loss. The studio also released the latest international poster featuring Damon’s newest leading lady Alicia Vikander.
Damon returns to collaborate with ‘The Bourne Supremacy’ and ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ director Paul Greengrass for the next chapter of Bourne’s story.
Damon is also joined by Julia Stiles, Vincent Cassel, and Tommy Lee Jones in the upcoming installment. The 45-year old Golden Globe-awardee previously teased that his character is in a “really dark place” at the start of the film, according to Movie Web.
In the newly released featurette, Jason is seen causing chaos in what seems to be an act of revenge after realizing that he was betrayed by the organization he trusted in the first place. The trailer suggested that Bourne volunteered for the top-secret black ops program Operation Treadstone following news of his father’s murder in the hands of terrorists. However, he finds out that they had been lying to him the entire time and goes in search for the truth.
CIA director Robert Dewey, played by Jones, creates a new program to hunt down Bourne. It seems that things between Bourne and Dewey have turned personal and will eventually lead to a fatal confrontation. Cassel is also seen as a deadly mercenary tasked at bringing Bourne down.
The trailer ends with a shot of Bourne in a ruthless fight pit. It suggested that Bourne had been engaged with the underground fight scene after disappearing in the years following the events of ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’.
Damon was first introduced as the CIA’s most lethal assassin in Doug Liman’s first film in the franchise, ‘The Bourne Identity’, released in June 2002. It received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike and won several awards and nominations
According to Box Office Mojo, Liman’s first film earned $214 million worldwide against a $60 million budget. It was followed by three more sequels in 2004, 2007, and 2012.
‘Jason Bourne’ is an upcoming action-thriller scheduled to premiere on July 29, 2016. It is intended as the fifth installment in the ‘Bourne’ cinematic series based on Robert Ludlum’s bestselling novels.
