“Jane the Virgin” season 5 is one of the most awaited TV shows in 2019. But fans will have to be patient for a few more months as the series will not return until spring.
The latest word on “Jane the Virgin” season 5’s premiere date came from no less than its showrunner Jennie Urman. The cast and crew have apparently wrapped up filming for several months now. But The CW seemingly decided to hold on to releasing the finale for quite longer than anticipated.
Fans may recall that Urman tweeted last October how she badly wanted fans to finally see what they have worked on for “Jane the Virgin” season 5. Unfortunately, at the time, she said it will not happen “until January.” Fans then expected that the release date was supposedly set this month.
However, about a month later, Urman replied on the same tweet to update fans. It seemed that they finalized a much later release date for “Jane the Virgin” season 5. “Looks like spring! It will be worth the wait I promise,” Urman wrote last Nov. 12. For now, the viewers may continue speculating on how Jane’s love story will conclude and then go back to anticipating a release date announcement in March.
The final season of the show will pick up from one of the biggest plot twists yet. The very last scene of season 4 surprised fans, and even Jane (Gina Rodriguez), with the return of Michael (Brett Dier). In “Jane the Virgin” season 5, the show will answer the dangling questions about Michael — could this be an imposter and, if not, why did he wait for several years before coming back to Jane.
Shortly after the ending of season 4, Urman was asked about the possibility that the Michael that returned is not the real man Jane married and loved. As expected, Urman cannot provide direct answers to avoid spoiling the surprise they have in “Jane the Virgin” season 5.
However, the showrunner did promise that “Jane the Virgin” season 5 will immediately pick up from this mystery and provide answers to the viewers. “That is also going to be answered in the beginning of the fifth season. Rose has amazing face-swapping capabilities, as we’ve established. [Laughs] That’s certainly going to be one of the questions that needs to be asked and answered, especially when we continue to play out that scene,” Urman told TVLine earlier in 2018.
