“How to Get Away with Murder” season 5 opened by providing some answers and raising a lot more questions. But the top two mysteries this season are evidently the identities of the person who died in the snow and Gabriel Maddox (Rome Flynn).
The major characters are obviously going through significant changes in “How to Get Away with Murder” season 5. But the show maintains the tradition of foretelling someone’s death right in episode 1 and revealing all the answers by tracing back the events months prior to the murder.
The story goes back three months before the mysterious death, which also happens to be on the night of Connor (Jack Falahee) and Oliver’s (Conrad Ricamora) wedding. The “How to Get Away with Murder” season 5 premiere only revealed that Bonnie (Liza Weil) is one of the first persons to find the dead body.
This means Bonnie is not dead and her state upon finding the victim could also be telling something. In the ending scenes of “How to Get Away with Murder” season 5 premiere, there are clues that Bonnie personally knows the murder victim.
She was visibly distraught as she watched the person take their last breath. Bonnie also took the time to close the dead person’s eyes, which in shows and movies is done only if the character is familiar to and cares for the victim. There is not a big chance that the person dying in “How to Get Away with Murder” season 5 is also someone close to Annalise (Viola Davis).
At this moment, there are still a number of possible victims and fans will certainly have to watch out for more clues in the following episodes. Meanwhile, Pete Nowalk has already confirmed that the answers will be provided in the “How to Get Away with Murder” season 5 mid-season finale.
Aside from the murder mystery, the “How to Get Away with Murder” season 5 winter finale will also reveal the truth about Maddox. At the moment, Frank (Charlie Weber) is the only person who knows about the truth about the newest character plus the other mystery person he has been talking to on the phone.
The“How to Get Away with Murder” season 5 premiere also shows Nate (Billy Brown) obtaining Bonnie's case file with the cryptic side note: “Child alive?” Nate then steals Bonnie’s used coffee cup and tested it for DNA.
Bonnie and whoever owns the other sample in her file have a maternal DNA match. The sequence then shifts to Maddox on a basketball court where he was first approached by Frank. It seems like “How to Get Away with Murder” season 5 is foreshadowing a Bonnie-Maddox connection.
However, knowing how things unfold in Annalise’s world, this may or may not be the case. “How to Get Away with Murder” season 5 airs every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
