Through the years, “High School Musical 4” has been heavily requested by its fan-base but so far Disney seems uninterested in producing a fourth film. Right now, there’s not even a confirmation from the company whether or not “High School Musical 4” is happening.
However, Seventeen claims that it is in fact in the works and has even released four characters that are going to be included in the supposed upcoming sequel. These characters are Erin, Derek, Campbell, and Natalie with the first two going to be the main protagonist, while the remaining pair will be the antagonist. “High School Musical 4” is apparently not going to feature the original cast of the franchise even though they’ve expressed varying interest in reprising their roles in the supposed sequel. However, Ashley Tisdale, who played Sharpay in the prequels, said she’s not going to involve herself if Disney does decide to create a new movie for the franchise.
“Looking back, it was such a perfect thing for its time and was so pure that I just don’t know how you go from there. ‘High School Musical’ didn’t make us, we made ‘High School Musical’ because of our friendship, how close we were, and the magic there at the time,” Tisdale told New You. “Kenny Ortega just made it what it was. Disney is an amazing company so I’m sure they’ll find some way to do [“High School Musical 4”].
But fans shouldn’t be too disappointed since Disney has announced that it’s going to be making a 10-episode spin-off TV series based on the franchise. Titled “High School Musical: The Musical,” it will follow the lives of Ricky, Nini, E.J., and Ashlyn with the first three grappling with a love-triangle plot. While this may not be the “High School Musical 4” movie that fans have been waiting, it’s at least something to quench their thirst until such time Disney finally relents. Maybe if the fans make enough noise on social media, the company will finally decide to create the much-awaited fourth film.
