Hideo Kojima Confused By Zombies, Distances Himself From ‘Metal Gear Survive’

A few weeks ago, Konami announced the existence of “Metal Gear Survive,” a supposed spin-off to the legendary franchise that Hideo Kojima created. It was met with a barrage of criticisms, mostly because it involves concepts too ridiculous for fans such as crystal zombies, interdimensional rifts, and no “Snake.” Now, Kojima is weighing in on the issue and he could not be putting more distance between himself and the title if he went to another dimension.

As PC Gamer notes, there are actually fans of the Metal Gear Solid series that didn’t jump on the hate wagon right away, preferring instead to keep an open mind. However, judging from a number of dislikes that the reveal trailer has gotten, most gamers are not onboard. It would seem Kojima isn’t either, though he was a bit more civil about his take on the subject.

The series creator was at a Game Show 2016 event in Tokyo as part of a live presentation panel when he spoke about the title. He was supposed to be there to provide more obscure details about his latest project called “Death Stranding,” but he was still asked about “Metal Gear Survive.” In response, he said “That’s nothing to do with me,” IGN reports.

Kojima said that the “MGS” games were supposed to be about espionage if you don’t count all the whacky stuff going on in-between. He was perplexed as to where zombies and crystalline zombies at that would fit into the franchise’ universe.

During the event, Konami also released new footage of the game, which was received just as poorly as the first one. Even barring the existence of zombies, the non-existence of any characters from the franchise, and the non-involvement by Kojima, gamers also had other issues with the video, Tech Times notes.

Many pointed to the clumsy gameplay, the unpolished graphics, and the overall boring style of the game. Some are griping that the title could have worked as a DLC for “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain,” but not as a separate game.
