Heartland Payment Systems has entered into an agreement with BitPay to identify businesses and organizations that can accept bitcoin as a payment method and will refer its customers to the BitPay's platform.
"We currently have more than 50,000 merchants accepting bitcoin payments on our platform. Through this referral partnership we hope to reach a number of merchants that are largely new to bitcoin, bridging the gap between the traditional and modern payments industry", BitPay said.
Heartland Payment Systems, founded in 1997, is the fifth largest payment processor in the US, and provides payment processing, payroll and loyalty program solutions to businesses. The addition of a payment processor of this stature into the digital currency ecosystem can have a significant impact as BitPay persists in bringing bitcoin payments to more and more people.
