The crypto gaming phenomenon known as Hamster Kombat, which is centered on Telegram, said on Friday that it now has a player base greater than the population of Russia, over 150 million gamers.
Hamster Kombat Game Sees 50% User Growth, Airdrop Expected in July
This growth represents a fifty percent increase from just the previous week when the game's producers announced they had reached the milestone of one hundred million users. To provide some context, this would imply that nearly one in five users of Telegram had signed up for the game, which provides participants with an incentive to expand a hamster's fictitious cryptocurrency exchange by withholding real cryptocurrency prizes.
Players who gain points within the game will eventually receive those rewards in the form of tokens in an airdrop. The game is a mini-app integrated into Telegram, a popular messaging service that does not require additional downloads. During the previous week, a member of the Hamster Kombat team dropped a clue that the airdrop is on the agenda for the month of July.
One cannot deny that the game is garnering significant interest within the Telegram community. Over 35 million people subscribe to the Hamster Kombat announcements channel on Telegram, making it the most popular channel on the platform by a significant margin.
As of right now, the game's YouTube channel has approximately 23 million subscribers, while its Twitter account has 7.7 million followers. Over the course of just one week, the number of followers on each account has increased significantly.
Another crypto-backed in-app Telegram game that earned ardent devotees with a profitable token airdrop to players, Hamster Kombat's success has been primarily fueled by its spiritual precursor, Notcoin. Notcoin was a game that was a spiritual predecessor to Hamster Kombat.
Notcoin's Airdrop Spurs Market Surge, TON Token Reaches All-Time High
The airdrop for Notcoin was launched on May 16 to great excitement. The token, denoted by the symbol NOT, has only increased in value since then, surpassing a market valuation of $2 billion just last week. According to CoinGecko, NOT is now ranked among the top 60 cryptocurrencies globally regarding market capitalization.
Toncoin, the native token of The Open Network (TON), Telegram's preferred blockchain, looks to have benefited from Hamster Kombat's success as well. Friday marked the day that the token reached an all-time high price of $8.13. Over the past two weeks, it has increased by more than 26 percent.
Due to the popularity of Notcoin and, more recently, Hamster Kombat, it would appear that additional individuals have expressed interest in becoming successors. Tapswap and Yescoin, two other Telegram-based games with token airdrop aspirations, respectively, stated yesterday that they intend to debut on TON in the near future.
