Despite the growth optimism and positive outlook for the US economy, it is important to look at the GDP growth data in a different angle.
Kindly note that India is not a G7 country, included to compare the growth of emerging economies and Canada is excluded.
We have included a chart and a table comparing the growth in the US against major global counterparts.
- It is noticeable that the growth in the US slowed the most among the others comparable only to India.
- US economy is still growing at a much stronger pace among other developed economies.
- However this angle does not change our view of strong US & dollar, but makes us cautious when looking at the data points ahead.
- We would also keep an eye to see if the Japan is coming back on growth path.
We expect stronger growth in the US, leading to rate hike by Federal Reserve (FED) in 2015. So we remain bullish on the dollar over the medium term.
