Google Being Sued By Former Employee Over Sexual Harassment And ‘Bro Culture’ Claims

Google has been trying to paint itself as a friend of the traditionally marginalized members of society and as a pro-diversity company. However, it’s still constantly beset by lawsuits from former employees holding grievances over their supposed treatment while working for the tech giant. The latest to file a lawsuit against Google even claims that it fostered a so-called “Bro Culture” and she was sexually harassed as a result.

The latest lawsuit that Google has to contend with now was filed by former company engineer Loretta Lee, who claims that she experienced sexual harassment while working for the tech giant, Business Insider reports. One of the more disturbing examples she provided was an event when she caught a male co-worker hiding under her desk.

Lee was concerned at the time that the co-worker, whom she claimed she wasn’t close to had installed a camera under her desk. Apparently, this same person also grazed her chest after grabbing her and asking her name.

According to her lawsuit, the female engineer claims that incidents like this occurred continually throughout her eight years working for Google. The suit even cites incidents of spiking, whereby male co-workers would put alcohol in her drinks and then make jokes about it.

When she complained about these incidents to Google human resources after much reluctance, Lee was apparently subjected to backlash resulting from the “Bro Culture” that the company had fostered. She was reportedly then ostracized by her male colleagues and even her superiors apparently turned on her.

Lee was eventually terminated in 2016, Gizmodo reports, with the company citing poor performance as a result. This was odd, considering that her record at the company prior to that point had apparently been stellar, with Lee regularly receiving positive reviews for her performance. Her lawsuit bears a disturbing resemblance to what other former employees of the company claimed to have experienced during their time at Google.
