Global Geopolitical Series: Iran say’s Trump miscalculated Iran’s next move after U.S. exit from JCPoA

U.S. President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of action (JCPoA), better known as the Iran nuclear agreement earlier this month, however, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani claimed that President Trump miscalculated Iran’s next move as the country works with other partners (Germany, France, China, Russia, and the United Kingdom) of the agreement to salvage the deal.

As the European leaders plan to activate a mechanism that makes it illegal for European Union companies to abide by the U.S. sanctions on Iran, which is set to be re-imposed later this year, Rouhani said that Trump played his first card and expected Iran to quit the agreement but he miscalculated as Iran expressed desire to continue with the agreement as long as its national interests are protected by other partners.

According to Rouhani, it’s not Iran but the United States, which needs to be accused of wrongdoing as it leaves an internationally recognized agreement.
