Global Geo-political Series: How did Philippines unveil unraveling world order?

Philippine’s’ newly elected leader Rodrigo Duterte stunned the world earlier this month by calling U.S. president Barrack Obama “son of a bitch” that led to the cancellation of a joint meeting by the White House, at a time when the United States need old allies like the Philippines to fight the Chinese influence in the South China sea. However, the remarks, which are more shocking, came later. After a few days, President Duterte announced that he was ending the joint naval patrol with the U.S. in the South China by saying, “China is now in power and they have military superiority in the region”. In addition to Mr. Duterte’s comments, Philippines’s foreign minister, speaking at Washington said, “I am asking our American friends, American leaders, to look at our aspirations. We cannot forever be the little brown brothers of America...we have to develop, we have to grow and become the big brother of our own people………You [have to] manage it correctly. You do not go to the Philippines and say, I am going to give you something, I am going to help you grow, but this is the checklist you must comply with………we will lecture you on human rights,”

These explosive comments have posed serious doubts over the dominance in the Pacific, who controls the region? This is the first indication the President Barrack Obama’s Pivot Asia policy has failed and the United States of America is losing its influence globally.
