‘Girl Meets World’ season 3’s episode 6 will find Riley and Maya traveling upstate to seek help from Uncle Shawn. Maya was feeling disconnected from her real self in the previous episodes, prompting Riley to do everything to get her best friend back.
According to Carter Matt, the incoming episode will feature the return of Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong). Shawn is Cory (Ben Savage), and Topanga’s (Danielle Fishel) close friend since childhood. He is also an uncle figure to Cory and Topanga’s children Riley (Rowan Blanchard) and Auggie (August Maturo).
Like Savage, Strong is reprising his role for the modern spin-off of the popular 1990s coming-of-age sitcom ‘Boy Meets World’. Strong was part of the main cast since season 1, first aired in 1993.
According to Hall of Fame Magazine, Shawn will also serve as a mentor to Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) after the two develop a friendship. In the preceding episodes, Maya is unhinged and is struggling with her identity. She has become less enthusiastic, less feisty, and less spontaneous.
Riley has made it her personal goal to lift Maya’s spirits up and hopefully get her best friend back. It was suggested that the two would travel upstate to Shawn’s home to help Maya recover her artistic self and let go of her insecurities. However, they fail to inform Cory and Topanga of their trip.
In episode 6’s promo trailer, Shawn boasts that he is the right person to help since he had always been the tough one. Shawn and Maya seem to have parallel personalities, both being quite rebellious in contrast with their friends Cory and Riley.
The new episode will also find Shawn finally proposing to Maya’s mother Katy (Cheryl Texiera). The two have been involved for quite some time but their relationship had been a tumultuous one. It seems that Shawn may finally make the move to ask for her hand in marriage.
‘Girl Meets World’ season 3’s episode 6, entitled “Girl Meets Upstate”, is scheduled to air on Disney Channel on July 8, 2016. The television series was created by Michael Jacobs and April Kelly and is intended as the sequel to the ‘90s sitcom ‘Boy Meets World’ that starred Ben Savage, Danielle Fishel, and Rider Strong.
