SMS or chat messages that come off as creepy, sleazy, or abusive have been part of everyday life since the invention of the cellular phone. Numerous solutions have been tested since, but it seems the answer has finally come. With the “Ghostbost,” no one will be forced to put up with stalker texts anymore; at least, not personally.
It’s a safe bet that when it comes to dealing with annoying people who send unwanted text messages, the best solution is the most direct; just tell them to stop. However, as the Daily News pointed out, there are those who don’t like dealing with emotional situations. People don’t like rejection and telling them that their text messages are unwanted might cause drama.
To help victims out of this situation, the company called “Burner” is offering the “Ghostbot” app to “ghost” the people who are sending the text messaged. For those who don’t know what “ghosting” is, it’s basically where correspondence slowly becomes more scarce until the recipient of the unwanted messages stops replying altogether. Since a lot of folks don’t like to do this, delegating it to an automated response service like “Ghostbot” can be quite appealing.
The app basically works by sending automated responses to text messages that are meant to discourage any forward advancement by the original sender. These messages are non-committal, distant and polite, but never rude, as Engadget explains.
For example, the sender could send a message that says “Let’s hang out” and the “Ghostbot” could reply with “I’m busy right now, maybe another time.” Clearly, the response is meant to reinforce the notion that the recipient is just not interested without enraging the other party.
Unfortunately, not everyone can get the services of “Ghostbot.” The app only works with numbers provided by “Burner,” so anyone interesting in “ghosting” stalkers without getting their hands dirty will need to apply for an own account with the company.
