Actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau recently implied that Jaime Lannister may still have a change of heart about leaving Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) in "Game of Thrones" Season 8.
Many fans were rooting for Jaime when he was seen riding to the North in the “Game of Thrones” season 7 finale. The scene implied that Jaime has had enough of Cersei's obsession with power. But Coster-Waldau weighed in on whether or not Jaime is emotionally strong enough to leave Cersei for good in season 8.
Coster-Waldau suggested in a recent interview with Vanity Fair that Jaime’s decision to leave King’s Landing was done “in a moment of passion” and nothing can assure fans if that is not going to change in “Game of Thrones” Season 8.
“I’ve almost been married 20 years—June 6 will be our 20th anniversary—and I’m very, very lucky. I have a wonderful wife. But over 20 years, there are times where you have fights. You can be so angry that for a second in your passion and anger you can go, ‘Oh, f*** this.’ Of course, three seconds later, you go, ‘No, no, no. What am I doing? What am I thinking?’ . . . I think the fundamental emotions are the same in every relationship,” Coster-Waldau further explained.
Through the seven seasons of “Game of Thrones,” it was shown several times that Jaime is one of the few Lannister men with a good heart. Before season 7 ended, Jaime sincerely tried to persuade Cersei to accept a truce with Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington). Jaime was also visibly disgusted when her twin sister slash lover later revealed that she was planning to leave Dany and her allies to die in the war against the White Walkers.
While the goodness in Jaime has been established, there were also several times in the series where Jaime’s unconditional love for Cersei overpowered his instinct to do the right thing. And this is exactly the kind of possibility that Coster-Waldau presented in the said interview.
The final season “Game of Thrones” is expected to focus on the war against the undead led by Dany, Jon Snow, and Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage). Fans are also highly expecting the scenes where Jon and Dany would figure out if they are biologically related.
However, the greatest mystery of all is who will end up sitting in the Iron Throne. “Game of Thrones” Season 8 is slated to premiere in 2019 on HBO.
