'Game of Thrones' Season 8 Air Date, Spoilers: Cast May Have Spoiled How the Night King Fits in Final Installment

"Game of Thrones" fans have been speculating on what part the Night King and his undead horde will play once season 8 comes around.

Recently, Wilf Scolding, who plays Rhaegar Targaryen in the series' flashbacks, may have revealed additional details about the Night King's season 8 role when he had a Q&A post in his official Instagram account. The specific questions were documented by a twitter user, Joe Weaver.

Scolding gave non-committal answers regarding an April broadcast for “Game of Thrones,” but he also did drop a hint about the Night King potentially playing a role

One of the more interesting fan theories about the role that the Night King and the white walkers will play in “Game of Thrones” was created by user u/MrSilenceT, which had posted on Reddit. In u/MrSilenceT's theory, the white walkers can be seen as weapons of mass destruction created by the children of the forest, who have outlived their masters.

The complication introduced by the redditor was that rather than a shambling horde led by a malevolent undead king, the Night King may actually be aiming to stop the horde itself by destroying the source of magic that binds the walkers to their curse – specifically the Heart Tree at the Isles of Faces -- and by potentially killing Bran, who may have a more significant connection to the Night King due to his own powers.

The White Walkers have simply been killing their way through things that they meet due to the capacity to kill being their only way of interacting with the world. This sheds an interesting perspective on the whole living-versus-dead narrative, which season 8's direction might head towards. In addition, this turns the HBO series' narrative into a more intriguing dynamic compared to just a good-versus-evil story.

Fans of the show can be excited for the fact that “Game of Thrones” season 8 has been confirmed to air on HBO in 2019. Still, an exact broadcast date has yet to be released by the cable and satellite television network.
