CD Projekt's GOG.com is the first of the major PC gaming digital stores to kick off the Winter Sale season for the holidays. Aside from discounted prices, the company is also confirmed to give away a total of four free games throughout the sale period.
GOG now has a dedicated page for its 2021 Winter Sale where CD Projekt says customers can browse through more than 3,500 deals. PC gamers can choose to browse discounted titles per genre. But the Winter Sale page primarily features a "Flash Deals" section where games would be offered with up to 85 percent discount in 48 hours. As of this writing, GOG customers can purchase "Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition" for only $2.99 (from $19.99) and "Pumpkin Jack" for $10.49 (from $29.99).
The GOG Winter Sale also features a mini roadmap where customers can find dates when the digital store will release exclusive deals. The schedule indicates that new discounts and a contest are slated to go live on Wednesday, Dec. 15, and Dec. 22.
As mentioned, the GOG Winter Sale will also let players with an account on the digital store download four free games this holiday season, starting with "Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun." The Winter Sale roadmap also confirms that the next game giveaways will be available on Dec. 23, Dec. 27, and Jan. 3 next year.
PC gamers can also find plenty of AAA titles on sale on GOG at the moment, including CD Projekt Red's "Cyberpunk 2077," which currently costs $24.99 after a 50 percent discount.
The GOG Winter Sale kicked off just a few weeks after CD Projekt announced significant changes planned for the platform following financial challenges in the last year. "We've decided that GOG should focus more on its core business activity, which means offering a hand-picked selection of games with its unique DRM-free philosophy," CD Projekt CFO Piotr Nielubowicz said (via VGC) at the company's Q3 2021 earnings presentation in late November.
Epic Games Store and Steam are also expected to hold their own Winter Sale events this month. Epic Games is rumored to start its holiday sale events on Thursday, Dec. 16. Meanwhile, Valve has previously announced that the Steam Winter Sale will run from Dec. 22 to Jan. 5, 2022.
