Vancouver, BC, Feb. 05, 2018 -- Doron Grosman, President and CEO of GCT Global Container Terminals Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Cheryl Yaremko as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective immediately. Cheryl is a Chartered Professional Accountant and a recognized leader locally and nationally as a transformative agent, most recently leading one of British Columbia’s largest utilities – BC Hydro – as the Executive Vice President Finance, Technology, Supply Chain, and CFO.

“Cheryl’s deep financial expertise in capital intensive industries including utilities, transportation, and manufacturing will be a strong asset on our leadership team,” said Grosman. “Her proven experience with cost management, large capital projects, and supply chain, combined with her experience in acquisitions, divestitures, and equity/debt financings will guide our teams in Canada and the USA into our next phase of growth.”
Cheryl began her career at Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants. She then joined Western Star Trucks, where she progressed to the role of Corporate Controller. In 2001, Cheryl was appointed the Group Director of Finance for the BC Railway Company and was later promoted to CFO. In 2006, her career brought her to BC Hydro. She rapidly rose through the organization, and in 2011, she was named Executive Vice President Finance, Technology, Supply Chain, and CFO.
Cheryl recently served as a Board Member and Audit Committee Chair for the BC Investment Management Corporation (bcIMC), one of the largest institutional investors in BC. She has also formerly served on the boards of the UBC Investment Management Trust, InTransit BC, Ballet BC, and the national board of FEI Canada.
In addition to more than 26 years of financial leadership experience, Cheryl holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), with a major in Finance, from the University of British Columbia. She was also recognized by the Association of Women in Finance as the PEAK Award Winner for Excellence in the Public Sector in 2013. In 2014, Business in Vancouver presented Cheryl with the BC CFO Transformative Agent award.
