French election: Macron takes lead in latest poll

French Presidential front-runner, the independent candidate Emmanuel Macron has taken a lead over the Front National leader Marine Le Pen for the first time in the round one of the French election, according to a poll conducted by Elabe. The first round would be held on 23rd April.

According to the poll, the former socialist economy minister and this year’s independent candidate Emmanuel Macron will take 25.5 percent of all votes. Front National leader Marine Le Pen will receive 25 percent of the votes. The former front-runner and the French Republican candidate Francois Fillon, whose campaign has been hit by fake jobs scandal, is in the third place with just 17.5 percent of the votes.

The top two candidates will face each other in the second round and rest of the candidates will be eliminated. The second round would be held on May 7th. Just like the other polls predicted, the Elabe is also suggesting a big second round victory for Macron. According to the poll, Madame Le Pen will receive only 37 percent of the second round voting, while Macron will receive the rest. The betting market is pricing a 63 percent chance of a Macron Presidency.
