French consumer confidence stabilizes in October, index unchanged at 104

French consumer confidence has stabilized in the month of October, after nine months of rise. According to INSEE report, the consumer confidence index came in at 104, remaining above its long-term average of 100.

Consumers’ opinion balance on their past financial situation has been stable, but the one about their future financial situation has lost two points. These two balances stay above their long-term average. Moreover, the share of households considering it is a suitable time to make major purchases has risen a bit compared to last month.

Households’ opinion on their expected saving capacity has dropped considerably: the corresponding balance has dropped by five points. However, it continues to stay above its long-term average. The current saving capacity balance has been stable.

The share of households considering that the past standard of living in France has rebounded during the last 12 months has risen again: the corresponding balance has risen by two points.

Consumers’ concerns regarding the unemployment trend has risen a bit in the month. The index rose by 1 point to 3.
