Following the rumors that the also rumored Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 remaster would not come with multiplayer, Activision is being bombarded with criticisms left and right. Among the latest to add their voice to the flood of disapproving comments is former Infinity Ward creative strategist, Robert Bowling via Tweet.
“Modern Warfare 2 Remastered without multiplayer would be like a car without an engine. Doesn’t matter how much I love the car, if I can’t pick up my friends,” the Tweet reads.
This comment comes at the heels of a recent article by Charlie INTEL and Eurogamer, both of which confirmed via separate sources that a remaster of the legendary game is in the works and that it would not feature multiplayer. Since the launch of the first Modern Warfare game, multiplayer has been a huge part of every Call of Duty game. As such, the absence of the mode would be felt in a big way.
On the other hand, it’s worth pointing out that all of the details that have been given to the public so far are only rumors. As Comicbook.com notes, Activision has not confirmed anything, either with regards to the absence of the multiplayer mode in the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 remaster or the actual remaster itself.
What fans know right now, apart from the reports provided by Charlie INTEL and Eurogamer sources is that an Amazon Italy listing about the game was posted briefly before getting taken down, which said that the price would be at $25. If the game only cost that much, it would make sense that it would not come with multiplayer. Servers are expensive to maintain, after all.
Then again, the feature could be added later on as a DLC for the remaster, which would be unusual but potentially profitable. It wouldn’t be consumer friendly at all, but when has that ever bothered Activision?
