As a legendary video game franchise, Final Fantasy is a property that gets a lot of attention whenever mentioned. This is especially the case when announcements about multiple downloadable contents for Final Fantasy XV through 2018 and until 2019 are made. What’s more, it seems the release of the game on the PC has convinced at least some developers at Square Enix that putting future Final Fantasy games on the PC might be a good idea.
With regards to the DLCs, the announcement was made by Hajime Tabata over several interviews with different media sources, Comicbook.com reports. These extra contents will be following the same episodic format of the ones that were already released and which proved to be extremely successful.
Apparently, this development is intended to do several things, one of which is to address the matter of the underdeveloped story. While the game’s main campaign is essentially already done, many players have said that it felt unfinished. Tabata recognizes this but since there’s nothing they can do to fill some of the story gaps without making a mess of the whole thing, the DLCs will have to do.
Another reason for the DLCs is to provide players with contents that they have been asking for such as “Episode Ardyne” or “Episode Luna.” These will give fans more reasons to keep coming back to the game and playing.
Of course, if Square really wants players to continue playing future installments to the franchise for several years, releasing them on the PC would be the way to go. It seems the lead programmer of FFXV Windows Edition, Takeshi Aramaki is thinking the same thing. He notes that there’s a good chance that future Final Fantasy games might come to the PC alongside consoles, Gamerant reports.
Several examples of titles on the PC absolutely surpassing their shelf lives include The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Grand Theft Auto V. If Square Enix can create a Final Fantasy game that generates the same level of attention, they could keep milking that cash cow for five years, at least.
