REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Sept. 06, 2017 -- According to a recent report by Dell’Oro Group, the trusted source for information about the telecommunications, networks, and data center IT industries, the Ethernet Switch – Layer 2+3 market posted the highest growth in two years, as sales grew seven percent year-over-year (Y/Y), driven by a surprising rebound in the Campus Switching market. Both Multi-gigabit (also known as NBASE-T) and 100 Gigabit Ethernet shipments surpassed one million ports in the second quarter.
“2Q17 was a strong quarter for all regions and segments within the Ethernet Switch market,” said Sameh Boujelbene, Senior Director at Dell’Oro Group. “Record sales in China, a surprising rebound in Campus switching, and ongoing strength in the Cloud segment helped drive performance of all the major vendors, albeit with some interesting share shifts in certain regions, namely North America and Europe,” stated Boujelbene.
The 2Q17 Ethernet Switch – Layer 2+3 Quarterly Report discusses why the rebound in Campus switching during the quarter was so surprising and why it may or may not be sustainable. Additional milestones from the report include:
- All the major Ethernet Campus switch vendors are now shipping Multi-gigabit switches, including Cisco, Dell, HPE, D-Link, Huawei, and H3C.
- Sales for Arista and Juniper reached an all-time high in the quarter.
- Huawei’s market share almost reached 10 percent in the quarter.
- 100 Gigabit Ethernet grew ten-fold Y/Y, surpassing one million ports, driven by demand from Cloud as well as high-end Enterprises and telco Service Providers.
