Leonard’s storied NFL career is matched only by his post-football commitment to contribute positively to the lives of others, particularly children and other football players at all levels.
This nomination is also notable because Marshall is the first hemp cannabidiol advocate to be nominated to the NFL Hall of Fame.
As a founder of multiple nonprofits and a volunteer for hundreds more, Marshall has made philanthropy and advocacy his post-NFL career. As a C.T.E. survivor, one of Marshall’s passions is serving as a player advocate to ensure that former and current NFL players have access to hemp-based cannabidiol (CBD), a neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory. Diagnosed with C.T.E. in 2003, Marshall was one of the first living NFL players to receive this diagnosis.
“We’re incredibly proud of Leonard’s accomplishments – he is truly a warrior – as a player and a C.T.E. survivor. We’re delighted to see him nominated to the Football Hall of Fame, a fitting recognition of his football career,” said Gabriel Ettenson, Elixinol COO.
From this year’s nominees, 18 finalists will be presented to the Professional Hall of Fame’s Selection Committee, which will determine the final five in February 2018. The 48-member Selection Committee then votes yes or no on each of the final five. To be enshrined in the Hall of Fame, a finalist must receive at least 80% yes votes.
