This week, The CW released a series of first look trailers for the network’s brand-new shows, including its revival of the classic 80s campy drama that brought Linda Evans and Joan Collins to international consciousness.
Entertainment Weekly sums up the new “Dynasty,” along with the show’s first-look trailer, which read, “The reboot follows two of America’s wealthiest families, the Carringtons and the Colbys, as they feud for control over their fortune and their children. The series will focus on Fallon Carrington (Elizabeth Gillies), the daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington, and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal (Nathalie Kelley), a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class.”
Co-written by Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage and Sallie Patrick, The CW’s “Dynasty” also stars James Mackay, Alan Dale, Sam Adegoke, Robert Christopher Riley and Rafael de la Fuente. The show is taking a departure from the original, wherein the rivals are actually the first wife and the second wife, CBS noted.
This time, the show will have the daughter of a wealthy family go head to head against the patriarch’s new love. Moreover, the lover is a Latina, and could very well block Fallon’s promotion as chief operating officer of her father’s empire. The setting is now in Atlanta, where it’s hot and steamy as compared to the snowy Atlanta setting in the original. The Carringtons also appear to be “unclothed” a lot, and exudes sexiness wherever they go. Brother Steven in the new drama is not ambiguous and is decidedly gay, and is not afraid to kiss a lot of mean.
“Dynasty” on The CW will premiere this fall after “Riverdale.”
