MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct. 24, 2017 -- Dremio, the self-service data company, announced today that its Co-Founder and CTO, who also serves as PMC Chair of the Apache Arrow project, Jacques Nadeau, will speak at DataEngConf NYC on October 31, 2017, about using Arrow, Calcite and Parquet to build a relational cache. Taking place at Columbia University, DataEngConf is the first technical conference that bridges the gap between data scientists, data engineers and data analysts.
Everybody wants to get to data faster. As we move from general solutions to specific optimization techniques, the level of performance impact grows. In his talk, Jacques will discuss how layering in-memory caching, columnar storage and relational caching can combine to provide a substantial improvement in overall data science and analytical workloads. He will include a detailed overview of how to use Apache Arrow, Calcite and Parquet to achieve multiple magnitudes improvement in performance, over what is currently possible.
Details on Dremio’s conference session:
When: Tuesday, October 31 at 10:00 AM
Where: Lerner Auditorium, Columbia University, New York City
What: Jacques Nadeau, co-founder and CTO at Dremio, will present “Using Apache Arrow, Calcite and Parquet to build a Relational Cache.” During his presentation, Jacques will discuss in-memory caches and the difference between block-based and data-aware caching strategies. There will also be a discussion of the relationship of security and predicate application in these scenarios and how columnar storage formats can further enhance performance by minimizing read time, optimizing for vectorized in-memory processing and powerful compression techniques.
Jacques Nadeau will also present “Apache Arrow: In Theory & Practice” at an Apache Arrow meetup on November 1, 2017 at 6:00 pm at Enigma Technologies in New York, NY. Arrow committer and creator of Python Pandas, Wes McKinney, will also present. For more details visit here.
