When it comes to authentic, traditional Japanese role-playing games, few titles can match the prestige and history of the Dragon Quest series. This massively popular video game franchise holds a special place in the hearts of both Japanese and global fans, which is why the existence of the eleventh installment in the series as a Nintendo Switch title can be the console’s biggest lifeline. Thanks to a newly revealed dragon riding feature, interest has built up even more as well.
Nintendo’s previous console offering in the Wii U was a disaster for the Japanese video game company, which is why its upcoming Switch needs to be a success. In order to do that, the console would need to have a wide variety of titles in its library and including Dragon Quest XI could prove extremely beneficial, Forbes reports.
Having the latest installment of this legendary franchise is helpful for Switch in so many ways, but none more so than to capture the attention of the wider Japanese audience who view Dragon Quest as almost like a national treasure. Like Final Fantasy, this series features many of the same RPG tropes, with fantastic adventures, magic, interesting party characters, and epic battles. As such, it offers many of what fans of classic games are looking for.
More than that, it also shows that Nintendo is not about to forget local, mid-tier development studios. This will help encourage such developers to create games for the Switch in order to expand its library of video game titles further.
Just to fan the flames of excitement in the hearts of Dragon Quest fans, it would also seem that the game comes with the ability to ride dragons, PlayStation Lifestyle reports. A newly released footage in Japan features some scenes wherein one of the characters can ride a dragon and seemingly control it in real-time. This is a huge deal because riding dragons are one of the biggest dreams of those in the gaming community.
