“Doom Eternal” was poised to create massive waves this year as thousands of players are itching to get their hands on the title. Unfortunately, the game has now been delayed, as announced by Id Software itself.
“Doom Eternal” was supposed to come out on November 22, but the team decided to push its release date for a few months to further polish the game. Its new release date is now on March 20, 2020.
“Throughout the development of ‘Doom Eternal,’ our goal has been to deliver a game that exceeds your greatest expectations across the board. To make sure we're delivering the best experience – for ‘Doom Eternal’ to live up to our standards of speed and polish--we've made the decision to extend our launch date by a few months to March 20, 2020,” the tweet read.
Doom Eternal will not be available on the Switch at launch
The developers didn’t dive into the specifics of what caused them to settle on the decision. Considering that “Doom Eternal” felt like a complete game following its reveal in this year’s E3, it’s difficult to speculate what exactly is the root of the problem.
Complicating the problem further is the fact the Nintendo Switch will not be able to play “Doom Eternal” at launch. As of this writing, Id has yet to announce when the game will be available for the portable console.
What’s more, the new mode of “Doom Eternal” – dubbed as Invasion Mode – won’t be available at launch as well. Instead, it will be added as a free downloadable feature following the game’s release. Invasion Mode is where a player can enter another person’s single-player campaign and give the opposition some headaches as a monstrous demon, Engadget reported.
Doom Eternal should be played aggressively
So far, “Doom Eternal” has been warmly received by the gaming community as the game is looking to provide a demon-slaying experience never before seen in the series’ history. In the various trailers that have been released, there are multiple mechanics that players have to learn to really become the most feared demon-slayer across multiple realms.
The developers themselves said that the best way to play “Doom Eternal” is to be aggressive, bringing the fight to the demons and dishing out pain left and right while simultaneously avoiding enemy attacks. And while some are disappointed about the delay announcement, others are willing to wait. After all, it’s better to wait a few months than to get a product that’s clunky and broken.
