Blizzard Entertainment started accepting “Diablo Immortal” pre-orders on iOS and iPadOS this week. However, the developer clarified that the game would not be released in late June despite the release date information some Apple device users found on the App Store.
The developer opened pre-orders for “Diablo Immortal” on Monday via the App Store for iPhone and iPad users. Fans who went and pre-order the day reported seeing a June 30 release date from Apple’s digital store, leading to speculations that it is when the game will go live.
The listed date seemed plausible considering Blizzard’s previous announcements. “Diablo Immortal” was originally slated to launch in 2021, but it was ultimately delayed due to the feedback from a prior Closed Alpha test. In a blog post last August 2021, Blizzard announced that the game was planned to launch in the first half of 2022.
However, Blizzard has now clarified that the game will not be released on the said date. “We want to make it clear that June 30 is not the official launch date of Diablo Immortal, and this is just a placeholder for the time being as we lock in our final plans. We will update the community with our official launch timing at a later date,” the developer told IGN.
Meanwhile, Blizzard did not indicate if the release timeline has been removed from the first half of 2022. This means, if June 30 was just a placeholder date, there might be a chance for “Diablo Immortal” to launch at an earlier date.
“Diablo Immortal” is a free-to-play MMO game specifically designed for mobile devices. Blizzard has previously confirmed that the game will support a cross-save function that would allow players to carry over their progression across different devices through their Battle.net account.
In a development update this week, Blizzard confirmed that “Diablo Immortal” will feature Class Change. Using tools in Westmarch, players will be able to change their existing characters to switch to a new class and apply new visual customizations. But changing to a different class will not force players to start from scratch. Blizzard noted that players could keep their Paragon levels, equipped items, and stash, and Horadric Vessels progress even when they switch their characters to a new class.
