PC gamers were disappointed when “Deus Ex: Mankind Divided” developers announced that there would be no DirectX 12 support for the game during launch. Instead, the feature would be patched sometime around September 5 or so. It seems Eidos Montreal is on the way to fulfilling that promise with the DirectX 12 patch preview, though it may not exactly be what players are expecting.
In a post on the Steam community page of the game, the developers announced that the preview version of the DirectX 12 API of the title is out. The post details everything that the patch entails, including how the developers decided to make it into a separate branch.
“Today, we’re pleased to announce that we’re releasing the first preview version of DirectX 12 for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided,” the post reads. “If you already own Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, you will notice that the DX12 preview version has been launched as a separate branch, which can be activated in the ‘Betas’ tab within the Steam properties of the main game. We are doing this because we want to have the full involvement of the community as we push towards our final DX12 release, occurring on the week of September 19th, 2016, which will include DX12 multi-GPU support.”
The developers also acknowledged in the post that the preview would have some hiccups, which is why they are not releasing the final product just yet. PCs with multi-GPU setups are not going to be able to run the preview for example, as Tom’s Hardware notes. Some high-end GPUs might also experience issues, though the team is hard at work to address it.
In any case, the final version of the patch will be released on September 19th if Eidos Montreal’s schedule holds up. That’s something for PC owners to look forward to.
