“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” chapter 189 might just surprise fans. One of the pillars seems confident in taking down Muzan while it is also possible that Tanjiro might soon be waking up.
Previous “Demon Slayer” speculations were way off. While most were trying to come up with various explanations on how Tanjiro might have inherited Yoriichi’s 13th form, the recent chapter did not feature Yoriichi or Tanjiro at all.
Instead, it came back to the current timeline were the demon slayers are busy battling it out with the current Muzan. Unfortunately for them, the demon was much too strong and they were defeated one after the other.
Mitsuri Kanroji was seriously hurt when she was not able to dodge one of Muzan’s attacks. Despite her insistence that she can still fight, Obanai Iguro was having none of it and ordered her to have her injuries treated.
But Mitsuri was worried that Obanai would go all out and fight Muzan with his life on the line. Apparently, Mitsuri’s line of thinking was correct as Obanai might have some sort of a death wish.
“I wish that you and I had met under normal circumstance,” Obanai thought to himself as he rushed to fight Muzan. “Unless I die and get a different body in which this filthy blood does not flow, I have no right to be with you.”
The recent manga chapter also featured Obanai’s interesting backstory. He came from a very rich family where all family members are females except himself. But it was soon revealed that there’s a very sinister reason for the lack of male descendants within their clan.
Their clan actually made a mutually beneficial agreement with a half-snake female demon. The clan will keep all the wealth of the victims killed by that the demon but, in return, the clan will offer all of their male babies as food for the demon.
The only reason that Obanai managed to live until 12 years old is that the female demon was interested in his unusual set of eyes. He eventually managed to escape their mansion with the serpent demon in pursuit.
Thankfully, the flame hashira was around and killed the serpent demoness while rescuing Obanai and his female cousin. Surprisingly, his cousin blamed Obanai for causing the death of his relatives as the demon went on a rampage earlier when she realized that he escaped.
Given his hatred toward demons and his own bloodline, Obanai will likely fight Muzan with everything he's got in “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” chapter 189. In fact, dying while fighting the demon is, for Obanai, the perfect ending for his life.
“I want to die defeating Muzan and I pray that it will purify my filthy blood,” Obanai said. “Then if I am reborn as a human being in a peaceful world without demons, I will tell you of my feelings for you.”
Based on Obanai’s thoughts, he seemed pretty certain that he’ll be able to take down Muzan even at the cost of his life. This might mean that he has a trump card up his sleeve that might be shown in “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” chapter 189.
There’s also a possibility that Tanjiro will finally wake up from recalling his ancestor's memories in “Demon Slayer” chapter 189. If this happens, the question of whether he finally learned Yoriichi’s 13th form or not will finally be answered.
