Crytek confirmed the release of “Crysis Trilogy Remastered” on Monday. The main title installments of the first-person shooter series will each get an enhanced version that will be available later this year.
It can be recalled that Crytek has launched a remastered copy of the first “Crysis” game last September. The “Crysis Trilogy Remastered” will be sold as a collection. But the developer confirmed that “Crysis 2” and “Crysis 3” will be sold separately as well, so fans who already purchased the first game’s enhanced version do not have to worry about having a duplicate copy.
Like the first “Crysis” game, the “Crysis Trilogy Remastered” was developed in partnership with Saber Interactive. The same studio worked on the “Halo: The Master Chief Collection” and the remake title “Halo 2: Anniversary” for PC that launched last year.
Also similar to “Crysis Remastered,” the collection of the enhanced trilogy will be available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Crytek did not mention a next-gen console upgrade, but the developer confirmed the bundle will be backward compatible with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S with an “even smoother” performance.
In the announcement blog post, Crytek mentioned that the “Crysis Trilogy Remastered” will include the single-player gameplay of every title in the trilogy. This means the collection will not feature the standalone expansion “Crysis Warhead,” which was launched between the first and second games.
The release of “Crysis Trilogy Remastered” will be a good chance for long-time fans to revisit the franchise with more advanced PC specs and gaming consoles. It is also a good way to introduce the series to new video game fans.
Players will assume the role of the super-soldier named Nomad, whose adventure begins in North Korea. Nomad is part of a rescue mission that eventually becomes an all-out war. “Crysis Trilogy Remastered” players will mostly rely on Nomad’s Nanosuit, which is one of the main gameplay elements in the series, that enhances the protagonist’s speed and strength.
Nomad’s mission to fight Aliens shifts to a post-apocalyptic New York by the start of “Crysis 2.” The second game brings in the Nanosuit 2.0, while the last installment of the trilogy introduces the Predator Bow weapon.
