“Criminal Minds” season 15 has been renewed by CBS as the fourteenth season wrapped up. However, it seems that the show has reached its end. It is now saying goodbye after this run but that does not mean that it was canceled.
The reason why “Criminal Minds” season 15 was designed as the final installment is because it has been running for more than a decade now and there are no more stories to tell. In other words, the police procedural drama already showed enough story material in more than 13 years that it has been on air on CBS.
Moreover, the previous chapter featured the least number of episodes in the history of the show. It was over just after 15 episodes while normally, the show runs for 20 up to 24 episodes. For “Criminal Minds” season 15, it was reported that it will feature an even lesser number with just 10 stories in all.
As per TV Line, “Criminal Minds” season 15 will return later this year and likely to run until early 2020. With the 10 episodes in the final installment, the show will end with a total of 325 episodes since it premiered in 2005.
When the “Criminal Minds” season 15 finale was announced, showrunner Erica Messer said that it is “really bittersweet” but she is still grateful to CBS for letting them know at once so they can end it properly. As to what can be expected in the show when it premieres, she told TV Guide, “We kick off the final ten with a two-parter, basically. Whether they're aired at the same time or not is unclear, but it's a two-hour story.”
She added, “The emotional journey of our heroes picks up about six months after this finale has aired, and chasing the Chameleon. We haven't broken the end of the series yet but, ideally, we're catching that guy.”
“Criminal Minds” season 15 filming right now but there is no advise yet regarding its exact airdate. It will return with A.J. Cook, Daniel Henney, Joe Mantegna, Paget Brewster, Aisha Tyler, Kirsten Vangsness, Matthew Gray Gubler and Adam Rodriguez.
