'Criminal Minds' Season 14 Air Date, Spoilers: Upcoming Installment to Have These Cast Members Direct

Image via CBS

“Criminal Minds” season 14 will be giving bigger opportunities to its cast members, with at least one-third of the season to be directed by the cast. TVLine has provided a breakdown of the cast members who will be working in extracurricular roles for the upcoming season.

A.J. Cook will be making her directorial debut while Matthew Gray Gubler and Joe Mantegna will be directing their 12th and ninth episodes, respectively. Aisha Tyler and Adam Rodriguez will also come back to re-direct their second episodes. There has yet to be any confirmation on which episodes the cast members will be directing from “Criminal Minds” season 14's 15-episode order.

Aside from directorial duties, “Criminal Minds” executive producer Erica Messer mentions that Kirsten Vangsness will potentially work with Messer to write her fifth episode. Vangsness wrote an episode each in the past four seasons of “Criminal Minds.” She is credited for writing the “Criminal Minds” season 13's “Full-Tilt Boogie” episode.

The extracurricular roles for more cast members come as a surprise considering that “Criminal Minds” season 14 is getting a contracted episode order of only 15 episodes. The show's executive producer, Harry Bring, posted on his official Twitter page confirming the 15-episode order but is leaving enough room to work on 22 episodes on his calendar in case CBS decides to order a full episode order for “Criminal Minds” season 14.

In an interview with Deadline, CBS president Kelly Kahl mentions that the contracted episode order was made to ensure that there was enough broadcast space for other more recent original programming from the network. Kahl mentions that depending on how “Criminal Minds” season 14's production goes, it could still get a full 22-episode order sometime mid-season.

“Criminal Minds” season 14 is due to air its premiere episode on Oct. 3.
