“Criminal Minds” season 14’s premiere will pick up exactly where the season 13 cliffhanger ended. Now, the Behavioral Analysis Unit will have to work fast to save their team members Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), who were captured by a cult inclined to commit mass killings.
Showrunner Erica Messer recently hinted that Garcia will definitely survive this ordeal. However, the upcoming instances will have a huge effect on her which will be noticeable in several episodes following the “Criminal Minds” season 14 premiere. Messer further explained that whatever Garcia will do “in order to survive” is something that was never done before “Criminal Minds” season 14, TVLine reports.
“Criminal Minds” season 14’s premiere also happens to be the series’s overall 300th episode, which makes it extra special for the crew. “This episode is a love letter to our fans as a way of saying thank you for being with us all these years and here’s to many more,” Messer said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
At the end of season 13, VICAP Agent Meadows (Karen David) turned out to be one of the loyal followers of Benjamin Merva a.k.a. The Messiah (Michael Hogan), the leader of the said cult. Meadows then told Reid that he has to set The Messiah free if he wants Garcia to live. Reid and Garcia then became the cult’s prisoners and this is where “Criminal Minds” season 14 will begin.
The official trailer for the “Criminal Minds” season 14 premiere shows Agent Meadows telling the kidnapped BAU members that “no one is gonna find” them. This suggests that whatever the cult wants from Reid and Garcia is beyond anything BAU can offer and it certainly puts their lives at grave risk. The big question now is whether or not BAU will be able to save them in time.
An earlier teaser from CBS confirmed that the rest of the BAU agents will learn at the start of “Criminal Minds” season 14 that the cult specifically targeted Reid and Garcia. This will likely explain what the cult will gain by killing these characters.
Meanwhile, it was also recently revealed that all throughout the 15 episodes of “Criminal Minds” season 14, the series will explore more backstories about several protagonists aside from Garcia. The series returns on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
