Business is ever-changing; it has its own trends, its ups, and its downs. On a global scale, we see yearly predictions of what these trends will be. What should the start-ups do? And how should the established companies adapt? In this game of camouflage and adaptation, some companies lose their ground, and some, gain. While the future can’t really be predicted, based on data and observations, we can surely at least make a pretty accurate guess. Construction companies around the world play an instrumental role in establishing the future. However, we as the general mass don’t always get to know the names behind all these wonderful creations and their promising work.

1. China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd

This Chinese company that has been hailed as the largest contractor in the world (in a 2017 Constructional Global report). It does most of, if not all of the leading, in A-list projects, like, shopping centres, hotels, buildings, apartments, bridges, and more. This private firm has a strength of over 270,000 employees, and it goes without saying that it is working with global clientele. The company aims to expand in healthcare and education. With its precision in work and a clientele that is spread across the globe, expect to see more of CSCEC in the coming year.

2. Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield

What was at first known as only Unibail-Rodamco—a company based out Paris— is now known as Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, after the company took over Westfield corporation in 2017. The process was completed in 2018. With an astounding $2.34 billion in net sales and the title of being the biggest real estate developer in Europe in 2017 (by Construction Global), Unibail-Rodamco has made its name due to its precision and brilliance in work. With a real estate portfolio that boasts of more than 60 shopping centres, 13 office buildings, and 10 convention centres, you can well expect every city to come will have a creation by these guys. It goes without saying that, given the company's ever-growing and impressive numbers, 2019 will see more of Unibail-Rodamco’s creations throughout Europe, and possibly beyond.

3. LEG Immobilien AG

Acclaimed as Germany’s largest real estate developer by none other than Forbes, this company has been on a steady rise ever since its conception. With a net value of a whopping $958 million in 2017, and an overall 4.26% increase year-over-year, LEG Immobilien AG can be expected to gain further ground in, not only Germany’s, but Europe’s construction scene overall. The company has a portfolio that ranges from urban apartments, to rural housing complexes, displaying its diversity within creation.

4. Bechtel

In a list compiled by Engineering News-record in 2017, a San Francisco-based construction company Bechtel bagged the first rank. Bechtel has had a history of over 120 years of steady growth in the market, with over 25,000 projects to its credit to date. It has expanded beyond America, and etched its name in over 160 countries around the world. A 100-km railroad in England, named the Elizabeth Line, and the Sydney Metro (which is hailed as the biggest public transportation project in Australia) are only two of its many milestone projects, and are heavily diversified. Bechtel has been around for 120 years. Right now, the number of projects it has will extend unto the end of next year. It’s no surprise why it made it on this list. Bechtel has been, is, and will be on a rise in the future year(s).

5. TechnipFMC

TechnipFMC may be a London based construction company, but it has operations in Africa, the Asian Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. No wonder it is considered one of the biggest construction companies in the world. It has an average net worth of of $13 billion, and has about 44,000 employees worldwide. The construction of the largest Hydrogen Generation Unit in India has been commissioned to TechnipFMC. Hence, it only makes sense that we will be seeing more of this company’s prowess in the coming years. TechnipFMC works are concentrated in subsea, off and onshore, as well as the surface.

The construction industry today is always changing. Its driven by the need to understand what consumers are looking for. The above-mentioned construction companies are not only generating annual revenues that help in the development of their respective countries, but because of them also, employment throughout the world is being increased. Keep an eye out for their projects; they will each surely be reigning over the global construction scene in the years to come.
