Infinity Ward is reportedly developing a “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II” spin-off campaign focused on the fan-favorite character Simon “Ghost” Riley. But it might not be an entirely standalone premium game.
Leaker @RalphsValve, who previously revealed some accurate details about the franchise, now claims (via WhatIfGaming) that Infinity Ward is moving forward with its idea for a campaign focused on Ghost. Details on when and how it will be introduced in the franchise are still vague, though.
The same report claimed that Infinity Ward had approached Samuel Roukin, who portrays Ghost in the series, with a sense that they have plans for the character beyond the base game of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.” But the leaker is uncertain if it would be offered as a DLC expansion next year. But the developer appears to be considering the idea of further exploring the “Modern Warfare II” campaign “with an intimate, episodic look” into the game’s characters and factions.
This is not the first time that a “Call of Duty” spin-off made headlines. Infinity Ward confirmed ahead of the “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II” launch last October that they considered a potential spin-off focused on Ghost.
“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II” head writer Brian Bloom previously told IGN that Infinity Ward has an idea for Ghost’s origin story. “There’s something about that character that’s iconic, but the mask and some of those more superficial elements, as we’ve attempted to build them out here in our current release, where did some of those things come from?” Bloom said. “And exploring that, and looking at that would be something I think the audience would love, and we would love to get into.”
The leaker noted that the rumored Ghost spin-off will not be a standalone premium game. But RalphsValve told a Twitter user that the campaign spin-off is suggested to be “attached” to “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.” It is unclear, though, if that would turn into a DLC expansion. Previous “Call of Duty” has had post-launch content, but they were typically focused on the Zombies and multiplayer game modes.
