CM Punk hasn’t been seen in a wrestling ring for a while, and a lot of people are hoping he’ll reconsider igniting his previous profession. One of the organizations that are hoping to entice the 40-year-old back in the wrestling world is AEW (All Elite Wrestling).
The promotion is currently in its nascent stage and bringing CM Punk – one of the biggest name in the industry – could boost AEW’s presence by significant margins. However, journalist Brian Campbell is skeptical about Punk’s potential return, arguing that if the former wrestler plans to get back in the ring, there would’ve been confirmation by now.
“[CM] Punk's difficult relationship with the business that made him a star continues to mean he will live by the beat of his own drum. And because of that, Punk appears much happier these days doing anything but pro wrestling,” Campbell said.
CM Punk’s UFC career
Brent Brookhouse agrees and even went as far as to say that CM Punk will unlikely return to the world of boxing ever again. Meanwhile, Jack Crosby is saying that the setup is too perfect, referring to CM Punk’s stellar reputation in Chicago and all the “smokescreen” that’s been thrown to hide the surprise. It’s been six years since the veteran stepped in the pro wrestling scene.
Following his departure in the world of wrestling, CM Punk ventured into mix martial arts and fought in the UFC twice. Unfortunately, he lost both those fights. In 2016, he fought Mickey Gall and was submitted via rear-naked choke. He would lose again two years later via unanimous decision against Mike Jordan.
CM Punk at peace if UFC cuts him out
CM Punk’s status in the UFC remains murky. He spoke with ESPN’s Marc Raimondi a few months ago and said he “believes” he’s still with the organization, Comicbook reported.
When asked where he currently stands with the UFC, CM Punk said that he hadn’t been offered any fights so far. He also said that every time his phone rings, he’s expecting to be let go. Despite this, however, the 40-year-old said that he has come to terms with whatever decision the UFC will make. As for the AEW speculation, Punk hasn’t provided a concrete answer to these rumors either.
