CJ OliveNetworks Co. announced on Wednesday, March 6, that it has signed a partnership deal with Qualcomm Technologies Inc. for 5G connectivity business. The company said this deal will help expand its specialized network unit.
CJ OliveNetworks, the information technology services subsidiary of the CJ Group, will expand its e-um 5G business through collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies. According to Pulse News, the agreement will also customize networks created to lay the foundations for 5G connectivity in the industrial setting.
The 5G Network Service
The company can allot frequencies directly and build 5G communication networks without any support from telecom operators because it is already a 5G specialized network operator. CJ OliveNetworks became an e-Um 5G provider after securing the approval to operate from the Ministry of Science and ICT in August 2022.
The e-Um 5G was described as a system that distributes 5G frequencies to buildings, factories, or institutions instead of the traditional mobile carriers. CJ OliveNetworks will combine its expertise in designing specialized networks with Qualcomm’s devices, such as cameras, drones, and tablets.
Advantages of the e-Um 5G Network
Meanwhile, CJ OliveNetworks established the e-Um 5G for the first time in a logistics hub at its Incheon 2 Fulfillment Center. Since last year, the network has provided wireless services 1,000 times faster than the regular WI-FI network installed in the center. This improved the environment for workers and the infrastructure, plus there were enormous savings for the service.
“To realize digital transformation and AI-based IoT environment in domestic and foreign industrial sites, a specialized network such as Ieum 5G is needed,” CJ OliveNetworks’ chief executive officer, Yoo In Sang, said in a press release. “This collaboration with Qualcomm will support customers’ DX realization. We expect that we will be able to contribute to revitalizing the 5G ecosystem.”
Qualcomm Technologies senior vice president and president of the Asia Pacific unit, Kwon Oh Hyung, added, “Qualcomm will strengthen collaboration with CJ OliveNetworks based on industry-leading AI and mobile technologies to revitalize the 5G ecosystem and expand the network of companies in various industrial fields such as smart factories and logistics centers. From here, we will strive to create a blueprint for innovative DX solutions to create economic benefits for companies.”
