Briferendum aftermath Series: Sturgeon likely to strike for independence post-negotiation

From the British Prime Minister Theresa May’s speech addressing Brexit concerns, one can easily see that The Prime Minister has rejected the idea of a special relationship between Scotland and the European Union. Scots, despite their 62-38 votes to remain within the European Union, will see it moving out along with the United Kingdom and without any major concessions for Scotland.

This should infuriate the Scottish National Party (SNP) leader Nicola Sturgeon, who would definitely view this as an opportunity to call for a second independence referendum. In the first one that was held in 2014, Scotts voted 55-45 in order to stay attached to the United Kingdom. After the EU referendum in last June, Ms. Sturgeon said that Brexit made a Scottish referendum highly likely.

So, when can this highly likely referendum take place? We, at FxWirePro, think that not likely until the negotiation between the UK and the EU ends and a final deal emerges. Without looking at the negotiated positions, Ms. Sturgeon has little or nothing to argue with in favor of that. Moreover, the members of the EU have made it very clear that they are going to negotiate with the United Kingdom as a whole and not with the Scotts, along with the Brits.

A second referendum push is very much likely from the SNP but not until 2020, at a time when the UK will move to the general election.
