The preview for “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” episode 72 has already confirmed that Tsunade Senju is going to return to the anime series. But given that the franchise is now focused on Mitsuki, is there a chance for fans to see Orochimaru as well?

“Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” episode 72 is officially part of the Mitsuki arc. As shown in the video trailer, Boruto and Sarada find out that their teammate Mitsuki is missing.

It can be recalled that before episode 71 ended, Mitsuki received a letter from an unknown source, which he later burned. Then, in the next scene, a guard in the Hidden Leaf Village gate was mysteriously attacked with a Lightning Release. And “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” episode 72 might reveal that it was Mitsuki who made the attack.

“Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” episode 72 is titled “Mitsuki’s Will,” and it seems to be connected to one small detail in episode 71. Naruto previously puzzled Boruto with the question about the hardest rock in the world. Later, Onoki revealed that he was the one who originally asked Naruto the same question and explained that the hardest rock refers to the unwavering will of a shinobi.

Since “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” episode 72 is focused on Mitsuki, it is very likely that this arc will pave the way for his own character development. And if that is the case, fans cannot rule out the possibility that Orochimaru is going to appear as well.

Mitsuki is, technically, not a hundred percent biologically human. Orochimaru created him out of his cloning technology, which somehow makes him Mitsuki’s father. But it was Orochimaru who erased Mitsuki’s memories and programmed him to rebel and leave.

If “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” episode 72 is all about discerning Mitsuki’s will, he will have to first learn the truth about himself and his past. And this could be a great way to re-introduce Orochimaru whether in an actual comeback or in a flashback scene.

One of the official channels to watch the series on is Crunchyroll. The website will broadcast “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” episode 72 on Thursday, Sept. 6, at 7 a.m. ET.
