Bitsquare, a decentralized bitcoin exchange, announced that it has started rebranding its name to ‘bisq’ as a result of trademark conflicts.
In a blog post, Manfred Karrer, founder, and developer at Bitsquare stated that the rebranding comes after the company tried various approaches including the suggestions and responses from its community that saw over 2000 suggestions from 266 contributors. Although the names suggested were not outstanding to convince the company, the name ‘bisq’ was selected from the internal list of more than 200 names that were discussed and that bagged votes from the community.
“Rebranding an established brand is challenging. There have been several favorites and it was not easy to select a single one among those. But finally we are convinced that one name stood above all - bisq,” Karrer said.
The brand name ‘bisq’ is displayed in all lowercase letters and was chosen as it is easy to pronounce, has the anchor letters B, S, Q which are a reference to Bitsquare, non-descriptive and short.
The company stated that they are working on a big release for the rebranding that includes the DAO model as well. Bitsquare expects its rebranding to be ready in 1 or 2 months.
“We try to schedule the whole rebranding before that release. There might be some time where both brands overlap but we will try to do the best to keep risk for confusion low,” he added. “Until the rebranding has officially started, we are still Bitsquare.”
