BitPay launches automatic refund feature for bitcoin payment exceptions

Leading bitcoin payment service provider BitPay has announced that its modal invoice has added a feature to automate refunds for bitcoin payment exceptions.

“We believe that bitcoin payments have the potential to change the way online payments work. But since bitcoin is a new technology, there can be a learning curve for some new users. That means shoppers can sometimes send the incorrect amount of bitcoin to a BitPay merchant – a case we call a "payment exception." Today we're sharing a feature we recently deployed to automate the handling of those exceptions,” the company official blog stated.

With the launch of the new feature, the customers those are paying merchants using the new modal invoice that was released in July, can now request refunds for overpayments and underpayments, directly to their bitcoin wallets from BitPay invoice flow.

The automatic refund mechanism will enable shoppers who underpay, to retry their orders and shoppers who overpay to get their funds back faster. The new feature will lessen the burden of support for merchants and enables reclaim of mistaken payments for their customers in an easier and faster way.

Those merchants who want to receive overpayments and underpayments also have options. Most of the BitPay merchants can choose to accept overpayments and underpayments within specific thresholds in their BitPay merchant dashboards. Merchants can check the new BitPay modal invoice through BitPay documentation and quick demo in order to test the new feature.
