As one of the biggest inspirations behind the show, Hillary Clinton is obviously a major figure for the people behind “Madam Secretary” as well as its fans. This is why the premiere of “Madam Secretary” Season 5 is going to be such a big deal. This is because the former U.S. Secretary of State and presidential candidate will be making an appearance.
On Tuesday, fans of the show got a big surprise when the program’s official Twitter account posted a photo of the main character and some recognizable public figures. Along with Hillary Clinton, the premiere of “Madam Secretary” Season 5 will also see Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright. This should prove to be an interesting first episode.

“We've got some BIG guest stars in store for Season 5! Former Secretaries of State @HillaryClinton, @Madeleine, and Colin Powell will be appearing on the season premiere of #MadamSecretary on Sunday, October 7!” the tweet’s caption reads.
As Entertainment Weekly notes, this will be the first time that the former U.S. Secretary of State will be making an appearance on the show. As for how the interaction will go with the show’s Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord (Tea Leoni), this remains to be seen. That these figures were actually able to find time to appear on “Madam Secretary” Season 5 is a miracle, the show’s executive producer, Lori McCreary, said.
This is quite the fitting turn of events as well because of how the end of last season saw Elizabeth planning on running for president. Having Hillary Clinton in the first episode of “Madam Secretary” Season 5 will make for a suitably immersive atmosphere because of her real-life attempts at the presidency.
It also provides the people behind the show with the opportunity to actually get the perspective of someone who has already been through the experience of running for the office. This should make the “Madam Secretary” Season 5 premiere one of the most authentic episodes in TV history.
