“The Big Bang Theory” season 12 has been confirmed to be the final run of CBS’s no. 1 sitcom. The final 24 episodes will not leave any loose ends as the show’s producers want the viewers to get all the answers once the drama ends.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunners Steve Molaro and Steve Holland are planning a satisfying ending for the lead characters, Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), Penny (Kaley Cuoco), Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg), Raj Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar), Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) and Bernadette Rostenkowski (Melissa Rauch). They will also avoid inviting many guest stars so as not to lose focus on the central cast and storyline.
On why they decided that “The Big Bang Theory” season 12 will be the last, Steve Holland explained that they all knew that this installment could be their final run.
“We all knew going into this season that there was a chance it could be the end. The cast's deals were up and it had been a long time,” he told THR. “So, they came together and they had a discussion about it and I think people had different opinions about it but ultimately, everyone felt like this was a good time to end it and end it strong.”
The showrunner added that everyone involved in the show was emotional when they talked about the upcoming season and realized it is really the end. He said that it was really hard to end it because “The Big Bang Theory” has been part of their lives for more than a decade already.
In any case, “The Big Bang Theory” season 12 has just started and only on its third episode now. The upcoming episode 3 is titled “The Procreation Calculation,” and as per CBS’s press release, its synopsis reads: “Life gets complicated when Stuart starts bringing his new girlfriend home; Penny and Leonard talk about starting a family; Koothrappali explores an arranged marriage.”
“The Big Bang Theory” season 12 episode 3 is set to air on Oct. 4. and Raj’s arranged marriage request from his dad is expected to yield funny results. It was also mentioned that there is a chance that Lucy (Kate Micucci) may return as the show’s bachelor’s love interest.
“The Big Bang Theory” season 12 airs every Thursday at 8 p.m. on CBS.
