Australia's trade report for September recorded overall monthly deficit on goods and services of AUD2.3bn despite unexpectedly strong import growth. This indicates exports of the country strongly surprised on the upside.
Moreover, the August deficit was revised down by nearly AUD0.4bn. As a result, the foreign trade deficit improved by AUD3bn between Q2 and Q3, though at AUD 7.5bn it remained substantial (equivalent to 1.8% of GDP), notes Societe Generale.
